Ameloblastoma (Adamantinoma) in a Buffalo

Abstract: Summary A six year old buffalo was admitted with a chronic indurated swelling at the left ramus of the mandible since 3 months. The radiographic picture showed a large osteolytic area and soft tissue swelling at the cheek teeth of the mandible. His topathological examination disclosed neoplastic epithelial cells arranged in islands and cords. The cells were arranged in palisade form resembling the ameloblasts. The clinical findings, the radiographic features and the criteria of the neoplastic cells confirmed a… Show more

“…1,10,22 Ameloblas-toma has been reported at all ages but in some species is found primarily in young animals (e.g., cattle), whereas in other species ameloblastoma is more common in middle age (e.g., in dogs) and in older animals (e.g., horses). 1,12 In addition to humans, 8,12 ameloblastoma has been identified in horses, 1,12 cattle, 1,12 sheep, 10 water buffalos, 7 rodents, 6 dogs, 1,22 cats, 1,12 and monkeys 23 but is more common in dogs and cattle. 1 Ameloblastoma is a nonencapsulated, well-demarcated, noninductive epithelial neoplasm of odontogenic origin.…”
