Amine-Functionalized Periodic Mesoporous Organosilicas

Abstract: Ordered mesoporous materials have been synthesized by co-condensation of bis(triethoxysilyl)ethane and N-(2-aminoethyl)-3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (AAPTS) under basic conditions with supramolecular templates of cetyltrimethylammonium chloride as structure-directing agents. Incorporation of the templates into the mesoscopic composite was followed by surfactant extraction to form periodic mesoporous organosilicas. These materials have been characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, nitrogen gas sorption, meta… Show more

“…The cocondensation method involves the synthesis and functionalization in a unique step, for instance the organosilanes are added during the synthesis stage together with the silica source [24,61,63,69,70]. The surfactant removal is carried out by ion exchange using either an ethanolic solution of ammonium nitrate [71] or hydrochloric acid [72,73]. This easy synthetic procedure leads to MSNPs displaying uniform distribution of functional groups.…”

“…Then, the regular pore network of MCM-48 provides more favorable mass transfer kinetics than the unidirectional pore system of MCM-41 leading to a perfect reactor for the synthesis of nanocomposites. Modification with ligands, such as amines, carbonates and organosulfides, on the surface of mesoporous materials is necessary to obtain specific adsorption and larger capacity [20,21]. Silanol groups and amino groups are effective for the adsorption of organic compounds due to their high adsorption energy or potential charge association.…”

“…These studies have been widely revised by Moller and Bein [26]. Organic functionalization of the internal surface of a MTS host by covalently grafting various organic species into the channel walls, a post synthesis grafting process, has been widely employed to anchor specific organic groups onto surface silanols, typically using organochlorosilanes or organoalkoxysilanes as precursors for the surface modifications [26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33].…”
