“…Laboratory Data.-Studies disclosed the fol¬ lowing values: hemoglobin, 8.6 gm/100 cc; hematocrit, 28%; white blood cell count (WBC), 15,600, with 80% segmented and 2% band forms of polymorphonuclear leukocytes, 11% lymphocytes, 1% monocytes, 5% eosinophils, and 1% basophils; urine, normal, except for a few WBC; stools, negative for gross blood, but positive for eggs of Trichuris and Ascaris; val¬ ues for blood urea nitrogen (BUN), serum bilirubin, thymol turbidity, alkaline phosphatase, and serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT), all were normal; purified protein de¬ rivative (PPD) 1 the giant cells and lying free in other areas of inflammation were large thick-walled brown fungal organisms, some with equatorial bands, diagnostic of chromoblastomycosis (Fig 6).
