An advanced contrast enhancement using partially overlapped sub-block histogram equalization

Abstract: Abstract-In this paper, an advanced histogram-equalization algorithm for contrast enhancement is presented. Histogram equalization is the most popular algorithm for contrast enhancement due to its effectiveness and simplicity. It can be classified into two branches according to the transformation function used: global or local. Global histogram equalization is simple and fast, but its contrast-enhancement power is relatively low. Local histogram equalization, on the other hand, can enhance overall contrast mor… Show more

“…Assume that any numerical image is represented by f and that the density value of each pixel of that image ranges from 0 to L-1. Here L represents the total number of possible amplitude values in the image and is 256 for 8-bit grayscale images [12]. The normalized histogram of such an image is given by (1).…”

“…Image recovery technology based on the deep relationship [2] has high demand for extracting the scene information without practical applicability [3][4] [5]. And the shortcoming of fog image restoration based on prior information is that its excessive saturated color [6] and high complexity [7] which lead to slow processing speed difficult to meet real-time requirements [8]. Enhancement technology for fog image includes two aspects.…”
