An Analysis of Arches of Foot: A Comparison between Ink Foot Print Method and Custom Made Podoscope Device Method

Abstract: The present study aimed to assess the validity of the podoscopic images compared with ink footprint methods (comparing the two different methods using the same parameters). Objective: The evaluation of the reliability and accuracy of arch angle (AA) is the purpose of this paper's study. It includes Chippaux-Smirak Index (CSI), Staheli Index (SI), and Arch Index (AI) by comparing footprints obtained from ink footprint and custom-made podoscopic footprints. Methods: Measurements of AA, CSI, SI, and AI are obtain… Show more

“…Furthermore, when more than three or four trial measurements were taken, the accuracy of the ink footprint was lost. It makes the footprint darker, making it harder to measure and imprint newer areas with sharp edges [13].…”

“…Different podoscopes have been introduced and are characterized according to the material of the supporting structure, i.e., a metal [18][19][20] or wood [13,21,22], the translucent surface, i.e., transparent glass [13,23,24] or plastic back-illuminated top [25]. Some have a mirror to reflect the image to the camera [21].…”

“…Flat foot in pediatric age group can be divide into two terms as flexible flat foot and rigid flat foot. In flexible flat foot, there is normal arch while weight bearing over foot and on stance there is flattening or arch, this condition may be symptomatic or asymptomatic [15]. In Rigid flat foot, there is stiffness, flatness in arch in both the condition like in weight posture of standing and non-weight posture.…”
