D.) with treated pernicious anemia, previously diagnosed on the basis of 1) macrocytic anemia with megaloblastic bone marrow, 2) gastric anacidity after maximal histamine stimulation, 3) low vitamin B,.! and normal folate serum levels, and 4) subnormal absorption of Co'-vitamin B,2 corrected by orally administered HIFC, were injected repeatedly with P-HIFC in the following manner: to a 100 mg per 100 ml concentration of P-HIFC in sterile saline was added sufficient 2% merthiolate 3 solution to result in a 1: 1,000 concentration. Aerobic and anaerobic cultures of this preparation were consistently sterile.…”

Other investigators have since found that desiccated hog's stomach is fully as efficacious as liver (13,24,25,97,103,104,119). Ungley (107) finds that whole brain is also effective.…”
