“…B-scans have the obvious advantages of a 'picture' whilst A-scans are generally preferred for accurate distance measurements. These ideas are demonstrated in Alexander & Miller, 1979;i(b) Wcinraub et al, 1982;Rukavina & Mohar, 1979; and i(c) Cole, Handler & Burnett, 1981;Kalus, Aindow & Cautfield, 1979. Ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive imaging technique that gives results that are reproducible when compared within and between investigators (Tan et al, 1982), and comparable to results obtained using radiological techniques (Alexander & Miller, 1979). We have developed an A-scan system that utilizes a simple 20 MHz transducer coupled to a Diasonograph (Fischer Ltd., U.K.), a scanner that is commonly found in ultrasound departments and routinely used for abdominal and obstetric examinations.…”
