An automatic approach for constructing a knowledge base of symptoms in Chinese

Abstract: BackgroundWhile a large number of well-known knowledge bases (KBs) in life science have been published as Linked Open Data, there are few KBs in Chinese. However, KBs in Chinese are necessary when we want to automatically process and analyze electronic medical records (EMRs) in Chinese. Of all, the symptom KB in Chinese is the most seriously in need, since symptoms are the starting point of clinical diagnosis.ResultsWe publish a public KB of symptoms in Chinese, including symptoms, departments, diseases, medic… Show more

“…All these unstructured data do not provide data dumps directly so that we have to extract the entities and relations from these texts. Therefore, we introduce SemRep [19], an information extraction system to extract triples from these unstructured data. SemRep is originally developed for biomedical research and has been extended to the fields of influenza epidemic prevention, health promotion and medical informatics.…”

“…It is an empirical study, but the number of text types and entity categories in the corpus was relatively small, and the authors did not list detailed methods about the development of their guidelines and annotation. Ruan et al [28] focused on symptoms and symptom-related entity extraction. Symptoms were divided into TCM symptoms and Western symptoms, and medicine was divided into TCM medicine and Western medicine.…”

“…Qiu Minghu et al introduced the construction of the recipe ontology in detail, mainly including the daily recipe and food composition database [18]. Ruan et al established an open knowledge base of traditional Chinese medicine symptoms that can be used in clinical decision support systems, including concepts of diseases, drugs, and the relationship between symptoms and the above entities [19]. The Computer Knowledge Engineering Lab of Tsinghua University constructed a bilingual knowledge graph of film and television, which is mainly integrated with LinkedIMDB, Baidu Encyclopedia, Douban (a website that offers recommendations, reviews, and price comparisons for books, movies, music records, and the city's unique cultural life), and other data sources [20].…”
