“…The addition of depth perception leads to a faster and better interpretation of the morphology of the patient's pathology and contextual anatomy. Stereoscopic images are being used in various clinical applications, such as surgical planning [1], surgical navigation [2]- [4], minimally invasive endoscopic surgery [5], autostereoscopic intracranial MRA visualization [6], and so on. Autostereoscopic visualization of the patient's anatomy has the potential to be combined with augmented reality, which has been reported to increase the surgical instrument placement accuracy [3].…”

“…The reduction of brightness of the parallax barrier display of the mobile workstation in 3D mode was disadvantageous compared with the lenticular grid display of the stationary workstation. In literature, the advantage of autostereoscopic 3D displays compared with 2D displays was shown on the example of angiographic data sets [1]. Compared with 3D displays using viewing aids, autostereoscopic displays were found to be beneficial [5,22], especially in the OR, where the use of viewing aids may be disadvantageous because of hygienic reasons [1].…”

“…Nowadays, this limitation can be partly overcome by the use of 3D displays that significantly improve depth perception and the ability to estimate distances between objects. Therefore, the content creation process needs to be reconsidered For computer generated imagery, the rendering system can seamlessly render one or more related views depending on the application [Abildgaard et al 2010;Benassarou et al 2011]. 3D contents are obviously clearer and more usable than 2D images because they doe not involve any inference step.…”
