An eco‐driving approach for ride comfort improvement

Abstract: New challenges on transport systems are emerging due to the advances that the current paradigm is experiencing. The breakthrough of the autonomous car brings concerns about ride comfort, while the pollution concerns have arisen in recent years. In the model of automated automobiles, drivers are expected to become passengers, so, they will be more prone to suffer from ride discomfort or motion sickness. Conversely, the eco-driving implications should not be set aside because of the influence of pollution on cli… Show more

“…Barabino et al have made a horizontal comparison of the subjective test of driving style and acceleration parameters collected based on Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) tools, trying to establish a comfort measurement table to provide reference suggestions for higher ride comfort [66]. Mata-Carballeira et al have conducted an in-depth analysis of driving data of 20 drivers of different age groups and driving experience levels, and have assessed the driving characteristics, so as to give references for the development of autonomous vehicle driving from the perspective of both ecological driving and ride comfort [67].…”

“…In conclusion, it could be said that the human factor is the main factor that determines the occurrence of a traffic accident, but the question remains, why traffic accidents are observed more often on some sections of the road than on others [24,25]. For this reason, other causes of the traffic accident, such as the technical condition of the car [26,27,28] and the road infrastructure, are also being examined [29,30,31]. Some researchers see the improvement of safety in the technology of autonomous vehicles [32,33,34], but this is still a distant prospect.…”

“…In these past years, a special consideration was given to HEVs as it can be concluded by the explosively increasing number of articles discussing the adoption of eco-friendly cars (Lin and Wu, 2018; Abo-Khalil et al , 2022). Driving comfort improvement (Mata‐Carballeira et al , 2022), HEV lifetime enhancement (Haram et al , 2021) and power sources durability (Song et al , 2020) represent the major trend subjects discussed the recently published articles in the field of automotive engineering. Since HEVs are in permanent interaction with the harsh external environment conditions, they are always subjected to fast and abrupt load variations, which may cause serious damages in both source and motor sides.…”
