An Efficient and Reliable Directed Diffusion Routing Protocol in Wireless Body Area Networks

Abstract: Wireless body area networks (WBANs) are composed of several tiny sensor devices which are embedded on or implanted in the human body. They are designed to continuously transmit sensed physiological data and act as key infrastructures for remote healthcare monitoring and treatment. Considering the limited power supply, varying link connectivity, and complicated channel environment, the design of routing protocol in WBANs is challenging. The existing algorithms cannot fully satisfy the application requirements. … Show more

“…There are many attempts carried out by researchers in which most of them are achieved higher security or optimized power consumption. Dual Sink approach using Clustering in Body area network [7], A Novel Framework for Software Defined Wireless body area network [8], Fragmentation in MAC IEEE 801.15.4 to improve Delay Performance in wireless body area network [9] and An Efficient and Reliable Direct Diffusion Routing Protocol in wireless body area networks [10] are taken here for performance analysis. The methodologies used, merits and their limitations are analyzed in this section to identify the problem statement for a new work.…”

“…For example, Intanagonwiwat et al explored the use of directed diffusion for a simple remote-surveillance sensor network and enabled diffusion to achieve energy savings by selecting empirically good paths and by caching and processing data in-network [14]. Mu et al inquired a directional diffusion routing protocol to improve the reliability of data transmission and extend the network life in wireless body area networks (WBANs) [15]. Directed diffusion routing is made up of three independent stages: interest diffusion, data transmission, and path enhancement [16][17][18][19].…”
