An Efficient Microwave-Assisted Suzuki Reaction using a New Pyridine-Pyrazole/Pd(II) Species as Catalyst in Aqueous Media

Abstract: Abstract:A new pyridine-pyrazole N-N ligand has been conveniently synthesized and characterized by 1 H-, 13 C-NMR, IR spectroscopies, HRMS and X-ray single-crystal crystallography analyses. The ligand adds to palladium(II) under basic conditions to give high yields of an air-stable and water-soluble complex that was fully characterized by NMR and HRMS. The complex was investigated as a catalyst for the Suzuki reaction in aqueous media under microwave irradiation. The compound proved to be an effective catalyst. Show more

“…We have performed the Suzuki reaction with freshly prepared Pd nanoparticles stabilized by D-glucose in neat water using microwave heating. [18][19][20][21][22][23] We first examined the catalytic efficiency of our synthesized glucose stabilized palladium nanoparticles by exploring the cross-coupling of iodobenzene 1a with 4-methoxy phenylboronic acid 2a in the presence of 5 mol % PdNPs, Na2CO3 as base and tetrabutylammonium bromide to give the corresponding product 3a in 95% yield (Table 1, entry 1). [22] Notably, under microwave conditions, the reaction underwent complete conversion within 5 minutes.…”

“…The hydrolysis of the imine C=N bonds in water to give aldehydes and Pd-black is probably more easily prevented by the faster MW assisted SMC. A new and efficient pyridine-pyrazole/Pd(II)catalyst system (PP-Pd) (Scheme 41) for MWmediated SMC reactions has been developed by Shen et al [74]. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of such complexes for the catalysis of SMC.…”
