An evaluation of six-year Stenotrophomonas maltophilia infections in a university hospital

Abstract: Background: Stenotrophomonas maltophilia is a Gram-negative bacillus and opportunistic emergent pathogen causing hospi- tal-acquired infections (HAIs). Due to risk factors such as prolonged intensive care unit stay and invasive procedures, it has become one of the leading causes of HAIs. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the epidemiology of S.maltophilia infections over a six-year period at Düzce University Hospital, Turkey. Methods: The incidence, clinical characteristics, antimicro… Show more

“…The rates of susceptibility of S. maltophilia to antimicrobial agents reported during 2020–2022 are listed in Table 2[28–30,39,49,95–120]. TMP-SMZ is the current treatment of choice for S. maltophilia infections because of its good in vitro susceptibility rates and extensive use in clinical settings.…”

“…We have a bench guide on the review of phenotypic assays for detection of extended-spectrum β-lactamases and carbapenemases 10 ; and a report on vancomycin intermediate resistant Staphylococcus aureus in the nasal cavity of symptomatic individuals 11 . Its followed by an evaluation of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia infections in a university hospital 12 ; bacterial meningitis in Tunisian children 13 , and “unnecessary antimicrobial prescriptions for upper respiratory tract infections in children in South Africa 14 . Other infections: From Pakistan 15 we have a report on the detection, quantification and genotype distribution of hepatitis C virus(HCV) patients by real-time PCR); while from Saudi Arabia we have a paper on haemorrhagic fever as a challenge to public health, effective management and future considerations.…”
