The changes in the operating conditions of the main control room of nuclear power plants due to new digitalized human-system interfaces (HSIs) pose challenges to traditional human reliability analysis (HRA) methods. This paper reviews current knowledge about the effect of digital HSI on human behaviour and reliability, relevant performance shaping factor (PSF) taxonomies as well as research on the effect of PSFs on human error probability estimates in advanced control rooms (ACRs). It cannot be generally concluded that either analogue or digitalized control rooms would be always better than the other. ACRs have the potential to offer error reducing and supportive features to the user, but may also introduce increased complexity and interface management tasks as well as potentially error-prone team working practices. Some effects seem universal, but most depend on the specific design. The main PSF categories presented in HRA methods and international guidelines seem still relevant in ACRs. Quantitative empirical studies show that especially training and experience, availability and quality of procedures as well as task type or complexity are important factors. However, digitalization changes the way in which the PSFs should be defined and measured, and the effects of PSFs on the error estimates may be different.

Serious incidents that occur inside or caused by industrial plants represent a very critical issue. In this context, the human reliability analysis (HRA) is an important tool to assess human factors that influence human behaviour in disasters scenario. In fact, the reliability assessment of interaction between human-machine systems is an important factor that affects the overall performance and safety in industrial plants. However, even though HRA techniques have been available for decades, there is not a universal method/procedure to reduce human errors that affect human performance. This study aims to design a novel approach to investigate the relationship between human reliability and operator performance considering the dependence on the available time to make decisions.

This study examines reliability of equipment (RoE) through three approaches: equipment design reliability, human reliability (HR), and maintenance‐based reliability. HR plays a key role in minimizing human error (HE) and subsequently enhancing RoE. Given that equipment reliability is influenced by numerous factors, these technologies come with various constraints, multiple outputs, and inputs. Compared to mathematical programming and analytical models, simulation methods in the field of reliability are relatively limited. However, system dynamics (SD) modeling is well‐suited to capture dynamics and complexity of systems, making it a valuable tool for long‐term strategic decision‐making. In this study, a combination of SD and regression approaches has been employed to explore the relationship between reliability and key variables such as HE and profit. Initially, the variables influencing reliability are identified, and then SD is utilized to understand the processes and interactions among these variables. Furthermore, linear regression is employed to establish the relationship between affective variables, reliability, and HE. To validate the results obtained from the proposed method, a sensitivity analysis is conducted. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model. Simulation results indicate that implementing policies such as employee training and preventive maintenance significantly enhances RoE, leading to increased sales and profits for the organization. Therefore, managers should prioritize these variables and allocate adequate attention and resources to them.
