An Experimental Study for Performance and Emissions of a Small Four-Stroke Si Engine for Modern Motorcycle

Abstract: The performance and emissions of a spark-ignited, port-injected, gasoline-fuelled, water-cooled, small-size modern motorcycle engine were investigated. For this purpose, an experimental test-rig was built up utilizing a small motorcycle engine for carrying out the practical tests. Experimental tests were performed for a range of engine speeds, various air-fuel ratios with a WOT condition and fixed timing of injection and ignition events. The experimental test-rig results consist of torque, power, brake mean ef… Show more

“…Syngas has a low-density energy and low calorific value compared to diesel [2,3]. Recently, researchers have made many activities to look for alternative fuels due to the depletion of petroleum fuel and the instability of its prices [4][5][6][7]. Syngas is considered to be a renewable source of energy for the future because of the availability of the raw material, biomass, which is used in the gasification process in different amounts almost all over the world.…”

“…CO2 dissociation, combustion temperature, air to fuel ratio and other parameters could have contrary effects on final CO fraction. We can find more information about the subject of this study in previous papers [43], [44], [45], [46], [47]. Table 3.…”

“…Using HCCI in internal combustion engines meets economic demands, conserves energy, and is environmental-friendly. The use of HCCI engines offers the advantages of high thermal efficiency and low cyclic variation at low loads and low equivalence ratios compared to Spark Ignition (SI) engines [32]. Exhaust emissions like carcinogenic NOx are reduced by 80% and smoke by 50%, all while achieving relatively high thermal efficiency [33].…”

“…Vibration and noise are results of the fast burning speeds in combustion HCCI engines since the combustion engines of gasoline-fuelled HCCI are not controlled by sparks but with auto-ignition [9]. The overall ensemble of HCCI engines can include different piston designs; these various piston designs contribute to the overall improvement of engine performance [10][11][12][13]. Designs are created using numerical simulation to best predict characteristics and outcomes [14].…”
