An experimental study of alternative hot water alternating gas injection in a fractured model

Abstract: Alternative injection of gas as slugs with water slugs, or alternative water gas injection, is the conventional technique for improving the recovery factor due to its high potential for mobilizing the residual oil in place in the reservoirs and to control gas mobility. The water alternating gas methodology is a combination of two oil recovery procedures: gas injection and waterflooding. The principal parameters that must be evaluated in water alternating gas injection in laboratory scale are reservoir heteroge… Show more

“…It can be seen from Figure 5 and Table 3 that oil production was higher in the early stage, especially in the second cycle, which lasted for 300 min, with cumulative oil production was 852.63 ml. The injection of steam reduced the viscosity of heavy oil and enhanced the utilization of natural energy in the reservoir (Ebadati et al, 2019), so the initial production was relatively high. From 2nd to 6th cycle, cumulative oil production gradually decreased by 218.59 ml.…”

“…Liquid foams are considered as the dispersion of small volume of gas in a large amount of liquid to generate the liquid foams which are stabilized by the addition of surfactants (that are called as the foaming agents) 31‐33 . Selection of foaming agent should be investigated according to the foam stability, foamability, and foam mobility which is different for each situation as there are various rock and reservoir characteristics and it should be taken into consideration in the laboratory to provide the best efficiency in recovery performances 34‐36 . The characterization of foams is utterly dependent on the size of the bubbles and the foam quality in which bubble size is defined as the average diameter of the bubbles (it might be varied regarding the properties of the foam and the distribution of the bubbles and for colloidal sizes is about 0.01‐0.1 μm) and foam quality is considered as the percentage of the fraction of gas volumes in the generated foam that ranges from 75 to 90 percent.…”

“…Renewable energies are increasingly seen as demanding affordable access to electricity while reducing the need for fossil fuels [17]. Various types of renewable energies are used today to provide energy that is considered to be the most important wind and solar energy [9,13,16,22,26]. Wind turbines and solar panels play a significant role in supplying electricity around the world [21].…”
