“…The variable most highly correlated with sulfur dioxide is air temperature, with r = -0.51 for the five years of data ( N = 451 days). This inverse relationship, primarily a result of increased space heating requirements, has been confirmed in numerous studies (Marsh and Foster 1967;Cleroux, Ray, and Robert 1980;Bringfelt 1971). Dewpoint, which is strongly collinear with air temperature ( r = .89), showed a slightly weaker inverse relationship with sulfur dioxide.…”
