An extended theory of planned behaviour model to predict intention to use bioplastic

Abstract: Purpose Approaches based on social marketing have led to the proposal of systemic interventions to achieve individual behaviour that takes into account the benefits for society as a whole. The use of plastics is having significant negative effects on the environment and so numerous policies such as the use of biodegradable packaging, have been implemented to ensure sustainable production and consumption patterns (Sustainable Development Goal 12). This paper aims to analyse the background factors that explain c… Show more

“…An increasing number of consumers prefer to use new, eco-friendly products in comparison to traditional fossil-based ones. For PHA, companies are responding to recent societal movements and increased awareness of plastic waste by moving towards biodegradable packaging (Gutiérrez Taño, Hernández Méndez, and Díaz-Armas 2021 ). For SCO, societal trends against use of palm oil produced through deforestation are incentivizing the production of SCO from alternative sources (Teng, Khong, and Che Ha Shasha 2020 ).…”

“…Therefore, citizen's behavioral intention to get COVID-19 vaccine is determined with factors underpinned theory of planned behavior. There are three core factors that illustrate TPB demonstrates theory of planned behavior including perceived behavioral control, subjective norms and individual attitude (Ajzen, 1985(Ajzen, , 1991Guti errez Taño et al, 2021). Subjective norm indicates influence of external/social environment or others approval to complete a task (Ajzen, 1985).…”

“…The theory of planned behavior has been used to gain insight into behavior (Armitage and Conner, 2001) across a range of different contexts, including recycling behavior (Haj-Salem and Al-Hawari, 2021), organ and blood donation (Holdershaw et al, 2011), the use of bioplastic (Guti errez Taño et al, 2021) and vaccination (Twum et al, 2021). It has also proven useful in the context of investigating the employment of people with disability, including by the original theorist (Ang et al, 2015;Fraser et al, 2010).…”
