An Improved DV-HOP Localization Algorithm Based on Beacon Nodes at Borderland of Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract: Abstract. An improved DV-Hop localization algorithm for wireless sensor networks is presented in this paper. The new algorithm improved two parts: (1) beacon nodes at the borderland of network are fixed (2) it uses Least square method to correct the average distance per hop. Then based on the DV-HOP, each node obtains the distances and hops. Unknown nodes can calculate their location with maximum likelihood estimation. Node ratio and network connectivity are simulated with DV-Hop localization algorithm and our… Show more

“…However, the distances estimated based on the DV-Hop algorithm tend to be imprecise due to the anchor's hop size error, which in turn, reduces the localisation accuracy [22]. Consequently, many attempts have been made to enhance the DV-Hop algorithm [23][24][25][26][27][28][29]. In [29], an improved DV-Hop-based localisation scheme (PSO-DV-Hop) is proposed to optimise the energy consumption by curtailing the communication among nodes.…”

“…It is not feasible to recognize the exact location of each unknown node within the large scale UWSNs [11]. Thus, in order to estimate the position of each unknown node present within a specific area instead of recognizing the exact location, the efficient Area Localization Scheme (ALS) is proposed [12].…”
