An Improved Limit on Pauli-Exclusion-Principle Forbidden Atomic Transitions

Abstract: We have examined the atomic theory behind recent constraints on the violation of the Pauli Exclusion Principle derived from experiments that look for X-rays emitted from conductors while a large current is present. We also re-examine the assumptions underlying such experiments. We use the results of these studies to assess pilot measurements to develop an improved test of the Principle. We present an improved limit of 1 2 β 2 < 2.6 × 10 −39 on the Pauli Exclusion Principle. This limit is the best to date for i… Show more

“…In the low mass limit where β → 1, we find a 90% UL of g Two other non-DM related rare-event searches were carried out using the low energy data and analysis, a Pauli exclusion violating decay, and an electron decay search. While the Pauli exclusion principle is a fundamental law of nature, its physical origin is still not fully understood [39][40][41][42][43][44]. Majorana searched for the PEPV transition of an L-shell Ge electron to the K shell that would manifest as a 10.6 keV [43] shoulder on the 10.36 keV 68 Ge peak.…”

The experimental and theoretical searches for a small violation of the PEP or the violation of spinstatistics are reviewed exhaustively for example in [3] and [4], which all pointed out a notable fact that there exists no established model in quantum field theory that can include small violations of the PEP explicitly. Moreover, although many limits for the violation have been presented by experimental searches, the parameters that quantify the limits cannot be directly compared since they are dependent on the model/system that the experiments based upon.…”

“…Moreover, although many limits for the violation have been presented by experimental searches, the parameters that quantify the limits cannot be directly compared since they are dependent on the model/system that the experiments based upon. In this context, the experimental method introduced by Ramberg and Snow [5] is considered as one of the direct tests of the PEP as reviewed in [4]. In their original experiment, by running a high electric DC current through a copper conductor, they searched for x-rays from transitions that are PEP-forbidden after electrons are captured by copper atoms.…”
