An Innovative Speech-Based Interface to Control AAL and IoT Solutions to Help People with Speech and Motor Disability

Abstract: Active and Assisted Living (AAL) has been recognized for its crucial role in determining the quality of life in the future of our society. This principle has been confirmed by such institutions as the European Commission, an organization that clearly sees AAL as the "fundamental block" in addressing the challenges of demographic changes, sustaining people in productive and healthy work, keeping people at home healthy, independent and integrated, and improving the delivery of care where and when needed. These a… Show more

“…It can transmit data over a network without the need for human-tohuman or human-to-computer interactions. Disability today can no longer prevent people with disabilities from falling behind in their daily household chores (9)(10)(11). An intelligent home for an individual with a disability can bypass any disability and help maintain independence.…”

“…Some of them combine with mental or cognitive rehabilitation systems (Alapetite & Hansen, 2017;Brik et al, 2018;Iyswariya et al, 2020;Li et al, 2019). Others emphasize their intervention in disabilities associated with speech difficulties; for example, Malavasi et al (2017) developed low-cost experimental systems for environmental control through simplified and accessible user interfaces, and many of the activities focus on automatic speech recognition.…”

“…The hardware technology that is also widely applied for people with disabilities is home automation, which allows users to function efficiently in their daily activities (Bissoli et al, 2019;Brik et al, 2018;Errobidart et al, 2017;Li et al, 2019;Malavasi et al, 2017;Singh et al, 2015).…”

“…IoT solutions used for Alzheimer´s include a set of IoT devices in the phisical space in which the person interacts. In the Figure 4, we present an generic IoT solution that include camera for recognition of the people whom visit to older adult and the send the information of the visitant through of the voice service (Malavasi, 2017) also allow to send photographs stored in the IoT server related for stimulate their memory. The location of sensors will allow tracking of the person related to their daily activities, walking time patterns or detect if the person leaves the physical space.…”
