An instrument for measuring T-odd asymmetries in the fission of heavy nuclei

Abstract: We describe an experimental setup used to measure the T-odd asymmetry effects for prompt fission neutrons and γ-rays in binary fission of some heavy nuclei induced by polarized neutrons with resonance energy. The overall setup as well as the details of the design and performance of the key components like fission fragment detectors, neutron and γ detectors, and the electronics used in the data acquisition and processing system are presented. The experimental setup on beam line POLI of the FRM II reactor (Garch… Show more

“…This spin control device was tested on a beam of polarized neutrons at the POLI instrument of the FRM II reactor in Garching (Germany) [10] and was used in experiments to measure T-odd effects in fission of heavy nuclei. The schematic view of the experimental setup at the POLI instrument is depicted in figure 3.…”

“…The DAQ of the experiment included the following modules: preamplifiers (PAM), timing filter amplifiers (TFA), constant fraction discriminators (CFD) for time pick-up, Time-to-Digital Converters (TDCs), logical modules AND, OR, Logic fan-in/fanout (FIFO), Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs), delays, scalers. A more detailed description of the data acquisition electronics is given in [8].…”

“…Two relatively light and two heavy fragments are observed in this fission process [4][5][6]. Studying these nuclear processes could give information about the mechanism of nuclear fission, so these particles carry information on statistic and dynamic properties of fissioning nuclei at the scission point [4,[7][8][9]. To study these processes, an experimental setup was assembled consisting of three position-sensitive ∆E -E semiconductor telescopes and a silicon detector.…”
