Armox 500T is a special type of armor steels possessing superior mechanical properties suitable for use in vehicles and buildings need for first priority protection. Since these products are large-scale, welding groove need to be created before joining which can be done by milling operations. This study aims to address this point by questioning the impact of clean environments namely dry, minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) and LN2 based cryogenic cooling on the machining performance measures during milling. The novelty of this paper is the investigation of the effects of different cutting environments on the milling performance of Armox 500T armor steel. The results from this study showed that cryogenic medium has an impressive impact on controlling the temperatures at tool-chip interface which directly reduces flank wear development. In addition, cryogenic and MQL-assisted machining is much better than dry environment in achieving improved surface properties, chip shape and energy consumptions. Cryogenic cooling seems as the best option for hard milling pursued by MQL and dry environments respectively from the sustainability and machinability point of view.

The goal of this research is development, design and manufacturing of CNC milling machine prototype using standard aluminium profiles. Machine is a three axis’s machine and it is developed primarily for education in the field of wood machining. It can be used also for machining of light metal parts. Main initial goal of the machine development was the low cost for its manufacturing. To achieve this goal, rapid prototyping technology was used to manufacture most of the machine parts. In addition, a lot of standard parts are used. The detail methodology for machine development, design and manufacturing are shown in this paper. Design process includes development of CAD models, calculation of all necessary critical parts, selections of materials and development of machine subassemblies and assemblies.

This work introduces a systematic approach for the optimization of an integrated system to produce fuels and simultaneously capture emissions while accounting for fairness schemes and sustainability metrics. The proposed fair-sustainable approach is relevant because a fair allocation of resources is key for long-term sustainability. The considered stakeholders in the integrated system include refineries, biorefineries, and eco-industries (taken in this work as endeavors for forest plantations resulting in capturing emissions). The optimal allocation of income among these stakeholders is analyzed by evaluating different fairness schemes (social welfare, Rawlsian welfare, and Nash approaches) and a sustainability metric (sustainability weighted return on investment). To incentivize the installation of eco-industries, economic compensation options are included. The applicability of the optimization formulation is demonstrated using a case study of Mexico. However, the model is general and can be applied to different case studies. The results show distinct income allocations under the fairness schemes and the sustainability metric. These allocations are compared to their utopic points. Additionally, the avoided emissions and the generated jobs obtained through the distinct schemes are analyzed. The results also show that the Nash scheme can provide fair trade-offs among the stakeholders' income and environmental and social functions.
