An Integrated Fuzzy McGDM Approach for Supplier Selection Problem

Abstract: Abstract. Materials constitute a large proportion of the total project cost and the absence of right materials in the right quantities and quality on site when needed is one of the most commonly experienced causes of delays in construction projects. Although supplier selection is a strategic issue, contractors generally select suppliers based on their past experiences, which may result in selecting wrong suppliers. Supplier selection decision is generally made by multiple decision makers and is affected by sev… Show more

“…A fuzzy AHP method is selected as a factor-weighting model because studies have declared its effectiveness in prioritizing and ranking of factors, criteria, alternatives in construction management, and other various disciplines [42][43][44][45][46][47][48][49][50]. Fuzzy AHP can be applied in several ways.…”

“…One of the essential decisions in the supply chain for contractors is to select suppliers, and the usual decision-aiding methods in contemporary economics are related to MCDM (Zavadskas, Turskis, & Antucheviciene, 2015). At present, various MCDM methods for the evaluation and selection of suppliers in the construction industry have been developed, such as the Simple Multi-Attribute Rating Technique Exploiting Ranking (SMARTER) method (Schramm & Morais, 2012), triangular fuzzy AHP method (Guan, Zhang, & Wu, 2013), AHP-ER (Evidential Reasoning) method (Polat & Eray, 2015), EDAS method (Keshavarz Ghorabaee, Zavadskas, Amiri, & Turskis, 2016), AHP and fuzzy AHP method (Plebankiewicz & Kubek, 2016), fuzzy AHP-TOPSIS (Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) method (Polat, Eray, & Bingol, 2017), AHP-GRA (grey relational analysis) method (Wang et al, 2017). However, none of those mentioned above studies assumed integration of the DEMATEL and BWM methods, which is a new system to determine weights of attributes.…”

“…Moreover, contractor or subcontractor prequalification and selection have been presented by several researchers, applying Fuzzy Sets (Niento-Morote & Ruz-Vila, 2012; Afshar, Alipouri, Sebt, & Chan, 2017;Alhumaidi, 2015;Nassar & Hosny, 2013;Plebankiewicz, 2012) and Fuzzy Sets approaches combine with MCDM techniques: Fuzzy AHP (Nyongesa, Musumba, & Chileshe, 2017), Fuzzy AHP and Fuzzy TOPSIS (Taylan, Kabli, Porcel, & Herrera-Viedma, 2018;Polat, Eray, & Bingol, 2017;Nasab & Ghamsarian, 2015), Fuzzy Set Theory and EDAS (Keshavarz Ghorabaee, Amiri, Zavadskas, Turskis, & Antuchevičienė, 2018), Fuzzy ELECTRE (Hashemi, Mousavi, Zavadskas, Chalekaee, & Turskis, 2018).…”
