An Integrated Strategy for Rapid Hemostasis during Tumor Resection and Prevention of Postoperative Tumor Recurrence of Hepatocellular Carcinoma by Antibacterial Shape Memory Cryogel

Abstract: The inevitable bleeding during tumor resection greatly increases the risk of tumor recurrence caused by metastasis of cancer cells with blood, and hemostasis and prevention of post‐operation tumor recurrence is still a challenge. However, a biomaterials approach for rapid hemostasis during tumor resection and simultaneous prevention of tumor recurrence is rarely reported. Here, zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF‐8) nanoparticle‐enhanced multinetwork cryogels are proposed which provide an integrated treatment … Show more

“…All of these changes could be attributed to the following aspects: the enhancement of G′ and G″ for HA/UCS and HA-ADP/UCS could be associated with the substitution of the amine group of CS and the carboxylic acid of HA, which could enhance the hydrophobic interaction between UDA groups of UCS ( Fig. 1 H) [ 36 ] and alter the density of electronic interactions between the amine group of CS and the carboxylic acid and diphosphate groups [ 14 , 38 ]. In addition, there were displayed clear potential changes before and after the modification of CS and HA ( Fig.…”

“…Surgical excision is a general method for the treatment of cutaneous tumors, but complete eradicating of cancer cells and restoring of normal skin function after the surgeries remains a major challenge in the treatment of this type of tumor . Therefore, the development of effective and innovative methods to simultaneously heal the wounds which are produced by surgical removal of large tumor tissues is highly imperative. , To address this issue, Mg-containing black-titania-incorporated hydrogel, in which black titania NPs (B-TiO 2– x , ∼50 nm) were embedded within a CTS matrix, was developed for the healing of skin-tumor-induced wounds (Figure A) . Due to existence of B-TiO 2– x with abundant oxygen vacancies as PSs, simultaneous PDT and PTT under single laser irradiation (808 nm) was realized by the thermosensitive hydrogel.…”

“…Of note, the hemolysis ratio of the GOSAM group was below 5%, which is widely considered the criterion for good hemocompatibility. [ 32 ] Next, we plated human normal mammary epithelial cells (MCF‐10A) into 96‐well plates coated with or without hydrogel to perform cell viability and live/dead staining assays. As shown in Figure 6B , GOSAM had no significant effects on MCF‐10A cell viability.…”

“…[ 27 , 28 ] In addition, hydrogels can be designed to possess hemostatic and wound healing properties, [ 29 , 30 , 31 ] which may accelerate patient postoperative recovery and even helps to reduce tumor relapse. [ 32 ] These merits make hydrogel‐based platforms attractive drug delivery systems for cancer treatment. Herein, we developed an in situ injectable pH‐responsive hydrogel encapsulating SAHA and 3MA to boost UCB‐NK cell infusion efficacy in TNBC ( Figure 1 ).…”
