Nowadays technology has practically changed every aspect of language teaching. There are numerous studies focusing on the personality traits of students or other internet users towards the internet utilization. Nonetheless, little research has examined the personality traits of teachers towards using computers for educational purposes especially in the Malaysian context. The purpose of this study was to investigate the motivation and personality traits of TESL postgraduate students in Malaysia towards information and communications technology (ICT) usage in second language teaching. In addition, the relationships between the independent variables (motivation, and personality traits) and the dependent variable (ICT usage) were explored. Then a descriptive-correlational research was employed. A questionnaire survey was developed, reviewed by a panel of experts and its validity and reliability were verified through a pilot study. For the survey, 89 TESL postgraduate students were randomly selected. Moreover, follow-up semi-structured interviews were conducted to strengthen the questionnaire survey results. The results indicated that English teachers have high levels of ICT utilization in the general software applications such as Internet, E-mail, presentation, word processing and office work and low levels of ICT usage for specialized software applications such as authoring, graphics and simulations. The results also showed that the participating teachers were highly motivated in teaching language with computers. Furthermore, the results related to the participants' personality traits indicated that they were highly extrovert, agreeable, conscientious, open and moderately neurotic towards ICT usage. The findings of correlation analysis proved that the surveyed teachers' motivation received a slightly moderate and positive relationship with ICT usage. Additionally, the findings of the Pearson correlation coefficient for the relationship between teachers' personality traits and ICT usage showed that generally no correlation exist between the overall personality and ICT usage. In particular the findings showed that only extroverts had a slightly moderate and positive correlation with ICT usage. The interviews responses also verified the questionnaire results. The research results suggest that to develop ICT integration in the educational processes, teacher training computer skills and increasing the computer facilities at schools are required. Finally, implications, and recommendations for future research are discussed.

ÖZ:Bu çalışma, beşeri değerler ile devamsızlık tutumları ve devamsızlık gerekçeleri arasındaki ilişkileri incelemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Ankara'da bulunan bir vakıf üniversitesinde çeşitli bölümlerde öğrenim gören 180 öğrenci ile bir korelasyon çalışması yürütülmüştür. Katılımcıların değer yönelimleri Potre Değerler Anketi (Schwartz ve diğerleri, 2012) kullanılarak, devamsızlık tutumları ise semantik farklılıklar ölçeği ile ölçülmüştür. Ayrıca öğrenciler, ilgili alanyazından hareketle bu çalışmada kullanılmak üzere geliştirilen ölçekler üzerinde, çeşitli gerekçelerle dersi olduğu halde okula gitmeme ve okula gittiği halde derse girmeme sıklığını rapor etmişlerdir. Korelasyon analizleri hazcılık ve uyarılma değerlerine verilen önemin devamsızlık tutumları ve gerekçeleriyle olumlu, özyönelim ve uyma değerlerine verilen önemin ise olumsuz ilişkiye girdiğini göstermiştir. Devamsızlık ile ilişkili tutum ve gerekçelerin çeşitli değerleri ifade etme işlevine sahip olabileceği önerilmiştir. A correlation study was carried out with 180 students who were enrolled in different programs in a private university located in Ankara. Value orientations of the participants was measured by using Portrait Values Questionnaire (Schwartz et al., 2012) and absenteeism attitudes were measured by using semantic differential scales. In addition, students reported the frequencies of not going to the campus in class-days, and not attending the classes despite being in the campus with various reasons on the scales developed by referring to the relevant literature to be used in the present study. Correlation analyses revealed that the importance of hedonism and stimulation values was positively, whereas the importance of self-direction and conformity values was negatively correlated with absenteeism attitudes and reasons. It was proposed that absenteeism attitudes and reasons might have the function of expressing different values. Cilj je ovoga istraživanja ispitati ulogu dispozicijskih i socijalnih faktora u objašnjenju učestalosti konzumacije cigareta i alkohola kod adolescenata u dvije vremenske točke u razmaku od dvije godine. Na uzorku od 126 srednjoškolaca prosječne dobi od 15 godina ispitan je doprinos osobina ličnosti Petofaktorskoga modela, percepcija konzumacije cigareta i alkohola kod prijatelja i roditelja, kao i percipirane reakcije prijatelja i roditelja u objašnjenju trenutačne konzumacije cigareta i alkohola (T1), kao i one mjerene dvije godine kasnije (T2). Dobiveni rezultati pokazuju da je pozitivna reakcija prijatelja važna i za trenutačnu učestalost konzumacije cigareta i alkohola, kao i za onu mjerenu dvije godine kasnije. Uloga roditelja kao modela za konzumaciju važna je samo za trenutačna rizična ponašanja. Efekti osobina ličnosti dobiveni su za konzumaciju alkohola u obje točke mjerenja te za konzumaciju cigareta u T2. Rezultati ovoga istraživanja upućuju na važnost roditelja i prijatelja kao modela u oblikovanju navedenih ponašanja te mogu pomoći u identifikaciji onih pojedinaca koji, s obzirom na osobine ličnosti, imaju povećan rizik za štetna zdravstvena ponašanja.Ključne riječi: adolescenti, konzumacija cigareta, konzumacija alkohola, osobine ličnosti, prijatelji, roditelji Barbara Kalebić Maglica, Filozofski fakultet Sveučilišta u Rijeci, Odsjek za psihologiju, Sveučilišna avenija 4, 51 000 Rijeka, Hrvatska.
