An iterative method of statistical tolerancing based on the unified Jacobian–Torsor model and Monte Carlo simulation

Abstract: This paper focuses on exploring an iterative method of statistical tolerance design to guide designers to select tolerances more economically and effectively. After having identified the assembly functional requirement (FR) and the functional elements (FEs) of corresponding tolerance chain, the expression of a unified Jacobian–Torsor model can be derived. Monte Carlo simulation is employed to generate random variables simulating the variations of small displacement torsor associated with the FE pairs with all … Show more

“…e effectiveness evaluation of the data fusion system is generally quantitatively evaluated by Monte Carlo simulation [147,148] or covariance error analysis technology [18,149]. To optimize the data fusion system, the following basic issues must be considered and solved [150,151]: (1) choose what algorithm or technology is the most suitable and optimal; (2) choose which fusion framework to use (that is, where the data flow is processed in the fusion process) is most appropriate;…”

“…The unified Jacobian-torsor model is a three-dimensional tolerance analysis model based on robot kinematics, computer graphics and torsor theory (Peng and Peng, 2020). It uses the SDT as a tolerance representation model and the Jacobian matrix as a tolerance propagation tool.…”

“…Li et al (2022) studied the ultra-precision measurement of the center of gravity of aero-engine rotor and proposed a measurement model based on the Jacobian–Torsor theory to improve the measurement accuracy in rotor assembly. Peng and Peng (2020) combined the assembly functional requirement and the functional elements of corresponding tolerances chain to derive a unified Jacobian–Torsor model. Du et al (2017) studied the final error of CNC machine and proposed an error model based on the Jacobian–Torsor theory to determine the mechanism of action in single-axis assembly.…”
