An optimization routing protocol for FANETs

Abstract: With the wide-ranging application of mobile ad hoc networks, flying ad hoc networks (FANETs) have received more and more attention from the industry. Routing technology is a key technology of ad hoc networks. The high-speed mobility of nodes poses a greater challenge to FANET routing technology. Based on the Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) protocol, the continuous Hopfield neural network is used to optimize the route to be adapted to the highspeed movement of the FANET node. In a simulation using NS3, the result … Show more

“…Since in FANET nodes can move in all three dimensions at the same time due to which the problem space grows exponentially. Among many challenging issues one fundamental problem which is highlighted by [14] is currently industry lacks specialized FANET routing protocols or atleast they are in development stages at the moment and not ready for production rollout. Due to this limitation FANET currently depends on MANET routing protocols which are useful for FANET also.…”

“…In paper [14], the authors proposed the use of continuous Hopfield neural network (CHNN) to optimize the routes found by the dynamic source routing (DSR) protocol so that they would adapt to the high-speed movement of the FANET nodes. Simulation using NS-3 showed that the optimized DSR protocol improved the indicators such as end-to-end average delay, throughput, and packet delivery ratio.…”

“…e authors did not address QoE and QoS metrics. e authors in [7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14] examine the techniques that are used in FANET, but none of them set out a routing protocol that provides an effective response to the changes in the network topology. ese papers do not address flight autonomy of the drones either and do not use a computer intelligence system for decision-making.…”

“…Under the strategy of route discovery, routing protocols are divided into proactive, reactive and hybrid (Yang and Liu, 2019). Proactive routing protocols maintain a routing table in all nodes that contain routing information from a node to other nodes.…”
