“…Fleet operators in our interviews and focus groups were concerned about the additional driver wages that would be needed as a result of increased refueling times, Fifty-four percent of our survey respondents indicated refueling time would be an important consideration when selecting an AFV. Other studies have shown that the extra costs associated with AFV refueling can be signi®cant and is a primary concern among¯eet operators (San Diego Gas and Electric Company, 1993;Bechtold, 1997;Singh and Mintz, 1997).…”

“…Furthermore, when methanol concentration exceeds 10% in gasoline-methanol blends, the fuel may be incompatible with some of the engine components such as the distributor, connector, as well as fuel storage and delivery system in gasoline-powered automobiles. Another shortfall with use of methanol is the corrosion of some metals such as aluminum (Al), magnesium (Mg), and zinc (Zn) components of automobiles (Bechtold, 1997) while the problematic reaction of methanol with some plastics, gaskets, rubbers, engine oil and greases must also be considered before use to avoid leaks or system malfunctions (Olah et al, 2011). To mitigate these limitations, methanol-resistant compounds such as steel and cast iron must be used for building components of systems that have direct contact with methanol.…”

“…Methanol fuel was affirmed to be a kind of possible alternative energy source and could be used in methanol vehicles, according to statements made at a conference held by the State Council in November, 2006. Many countries including Japan and United States (Bechtold et al, 1996) are taking great interest in methanol vehicle for practical use. Therefore, there will be an increasing demand for methanol in the future.…”
