An overview on mixture design of self‐compacting concrete

Abstract: Self-compacting concrete (SCC) was developed in 1988 and introduced by Professor H. Okamura to achieve durability of structures with low skilled laborers. The three properties of SCC that differentiates it from traditional concrete are passing ability, filling ability and segregation resistance. The present study highlights the developments concerning SCC in the period from 1995 to 2017. This information is important for researchers and professionals working in this area. SCC can be optimized to a larger exten… Show more

“…SCC is used for the construction of RC members with a closely spaced steel reinforcement where the possibility of compacting concrete is limited. However, the use of SCC does not require any compaction using vibrators unlike other conventional concrete 22–24 . SCC should possess three main characteristics in its fresh state such as (i) filling ability, (ii) passing ability, and (iii) resistance to segregation.…”

“…Brouwers et al [24] defined a design method for conventional strength SCC based on minimizing the volume of mortar. All these different methods that have been developed, according Ashish et al [25], could be divided in six categories, namely, empirical design methods, statistical factorial design methods, strength-based design methods, rheology of paste methods, particle packing methods and Eco-SCC mixture design methods.…”

“…So, exploring the above‐indicated concern and hurdles partial substitution of OPC by marble slurry was experimented by many researchers in different aspects worldwide, and promising results were established 14 . An article by Tunc, 15 Ashish and Verma 16 demonstrate the benefits of utilizing the marble waste in different industrial, ecological, and structural domains. Arel 17,18 stated that the presence of marble cutting waste as fine aggregate in cement concrete though decreases the workability but increment in mechanical properties was observed due to the presence of CaCO 3 and SiO 2 .…”
