Analgesia Induced by Microwave Irradiation of an Acupuncture Point in Mice with Visceral Pain: Role of the Cerebral Opioid System

Abstract: Visceral pain was induced in experiments on albino mice by i.p. injection of an acetic acid solution (acetate test, AT); under such conditions, we studied the involvement of the opioid cerebral system in analgesia induced by broad-range "noise" microwave irradiation (mode 1, frequency 30 to 300 GHz) and fixed-frequency irradiation (mode 2, frequency 61 ± 4 GHz) of the acupuncture point (AP) Е-36. Microwave irradiation of this AP in both modes used led to shorter durations of the AT-induced pain behavioral reac… Show more

“…Such effects were mainly related to the peripheral nervous stimulation induced by the MMW, leading to central endorphin secretion and thus to a hypoalgesic effect. This was supported, in particular, by several neurophysiological studies in animal experiments [13,14]. Recent technological advances in high-speed electronics and miniaturization have allowed to develop inexpensive, integrated hyper-frequency emitters that can be simply worn by the patient like a watch (see (Figure 1…”

“…Plasmatic corticosterone level is a classic marker of stress in animals [31,32]. This assay was performed by radioimmunoassay using Coat-a-Count kits(Coat-A-Count Cortisol_PITKCO-9, Siemens, Meditechno : www.meditechno.pt).…”
