Análise clinica da espasticidade em indivíduos com lesão medular

Abstract: Objective To evaluate the effect of neuromuscular electrical stimulation on spasticity in patients with spinal cord injury. Methods The study included eleven subjects with spinal cord injuries (C4 to T5). The modified Ashworth scale and pendulum test, which is accomplished through the Pendular Test Device - PTD (equipment which has a quartz crystal transducer accelerometer and optic fiber flexible electrogoniometer measuring the tensions and angular displacements). Patients underwent neuromuscular electrical s… Show more

“…Meanwhile, supine and semi-supine postures increase blood pressure and pain in patients with injury above T6 (autonomic dysreflexia). ( 17 Another related study was prepared to evaluate the effect of neuromuscular electrical stimulation on spasticity in patients with spinal cord injury and concluded that it is effective by reducing spasticity, but with short duration. Figure 3a - before NMES, there are disorganized movements and less wave amplitude, explained by the absence of muscle control.…”

“…Some of the studies compared healthy participants with their patient population. Almost half of these studies also used clinical scales either to choose the range of spasticity in their patient population [16,29] or to compare their outcome measures according to the divisions that clinical scales provided [6,17].…”

“…According to relevant clinical experience and literature,6,7 the treatment schemes for cervical spinal cord injury complicated with incomplete paralysis mainly focused on secondary injury because primary injury is featured by sudden onset and rapid progress. Recently whether adrenocortical hormone can be used in the treatment of cervical spinal cord injury and how to use it has become controversial 8,9. One of the recent experimental study showed that the early use of high-dose glucocorticoids after cervical spine fracture combined with spinal cord injury could reduce or delay secondary injury and improve the prognosis 10…”
