Abstract: Contexto: A herpes zóster (HZ), causada pelo vírus varicela zoster (VZV), é a forma secundária da doença da varicela, que é adquirida ainda na infância, durante a qual fica latente nos nervos, surgindo apenas posteriormente. A partir do envolvimento do vírus VZV com o nervo oftálmico, primeira divisão do nervo trigêmeo, a doença passa a ser conhecida como herpes zoster oftálmica (HZO), caracterizando-se como a forma mais grave de HZO.
