Show more

“…The average annual rainfall was 1018.35 mm, with 1997 being the rainiest year (1724 mm), and 2006, the least rainy year (546.6 mm). These values are within the expected ranges for the region, 800 to 1000 mm year -1 (Kottek et al, 2006;Jansen et al, 2008;Harrison et al, 2011), of 1036 mm of average annual rainfall for the province of Manica (Guedes, 2018), and 1016.63 mm for the historical series from 1989 to 2018 (Cangela et al, 2021). In the historical series evaluated, it can be seen that 41% of the annual rainfall for the years 1989, 1993, 1996 to 2001, 2007, 2013, 2014, 2017 to 2019 is above the average annual rainfall; 47% of the annual rainfall for the years 1990 to 1992, 1994, 1995, 2002 to 2004, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2015, 2012, 2015 and 2017 The main factors in rainfall variability in southern Africa, that is, in regions with mainly summer rainfall, are ENSO (El Niño South Oscillation) and SSTs (stochastic storm transposition) of the Indian Ocean, including the IOZM (Hoerling et al, 2006;Hoell et al, 2015;Zhang et al, 2015).…”
