This study aims to examine the water quality of Lake Sentani using both in-situ data and satellite remote sensing data. In-situ data was taken in July 2023 at 18 sampling sites, including temperature, DO, pH, TDS, and water transparency. In-situ data is also used to develop and validate algorithms for estimating water quality from satellite remote sensing data. Multi-temporal Landsat-8 satellite imagery was used to spatially and temporally map the surface water quality of Lake Sentani. In-situ data showed temperature, DO, pH, TDS, and water transparency ranging from 29.3°C to 31.8°C, 1.7 mg/L to 7.9 mg/L, 7.75 to 8.64, 23 mg/L to 46 mg/L, and 2.28 m to 2.94 m, respectively. Only water transparency does not meet the quality standards for water quality (class 1 and class 2), while the other parameters meet class 1 to class 3 quality standards for surface water samples. The accuracy of the algorithm used and the resulting one has a low Mean Absolute Error value, namely 0.81 (temperature), 0.37 (DO), 4.84 (TDS), and 0.12 (water transparency). The temperature and TDS concentrations from the satellite imagery data ranged from 28.110°C to 33.918°C, and 7.829 mg/L to 102.702 mg/L, respectively. Both of these parameters still meet water quality standards. The DO concentrations ranged from 2.228 mg/L to 12.562 mg/L, and water transparency ranged from 0.424 m to 3.151 m. The concentration of DO and water transparency do not meet quality standards in several parts of Lake Sentani, especially in November and August.

Pollution that occurs in lake waters needs special attention from various parties in the management of the lake in the future. The activities occurring around the lake result in an increased inflow of pollution into the lake. The aim of this study is to assess the pollution condition of Lake Aneuk Laot in Sabang by utilizing indicators such as the pollution index, CCME WQI (Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment Water Quality Index), and saprobic index. The investigation took place in both September 2019 and June 2021, employing the stratified random sampling method with four designated observation stations for the sampling process. Parameter measurements analyzed in the pollution index include temperature, depth, current, TDS, TSS, BOD, COD, DO, phosphate, nitrate, ammonia, sulfide, iron, lead, oil and fat, detergent, pH, e-coliform, and parameters used in the saprobic index include phytoplankton data. Based on the analysis of the Pollution Index and CCME WQI it is determined that the pollution status of Lake Aneuk Laot is heavily polluted for Class I, moderately polluted for Classes 1 and 2, and falls under the good category for Class 4. The saprobic index results show the beta-mesosaprobic category with a result of 2.3 (moderately loaded).

In Cimahi City, the river water is heavily polluted, and well water is not suitable for drinking water, so to anticipate the lack of clean water, the Environmental Service is planning to revitalize one of the ponds, namely the Cibabat Lake. This study’s purpose is to determine the reservoir’s condition based on water quality and trophic status. The method used for calculating water quality status is the Pollutant Index, which refers to the Decree of the Minister of Environment Number 115 of 2003 with results is 8,450, and will be 8,751 in 2022, with the water quality classified status as moderately polluted. Meanwhile, the method to assess trophic status uses the Carlson Trophic State Index (TSI) method by taking air samples for the parameters Total Nitrogen, Total Phosphate, Chlorophyll-a, and brightness which is included in the hypereutrophic category. The Cibabat Reservoir has been polluted by domestic waste based on the calculation of the potential pollutant load such as BOD, COD, TSS, Total Phosphate and Total Nitrogen in the border area is 2,219,600; 3,051,950; 2,108,620; 11,623; and 108,206 kg/day, respectively. DTA area is 1,886.660: 2,594.158; 1,792.327; 9,905; 91.975 kg/day, respectively. This is influenced by the increasing population each year.
