Analyses of growth performance and realized heritability of the second generation of Indo‐PacificPampus argenteus

Abstract: Silver pomfret (Pampus argenteus) is one of the most important fishery products in the Indo-Pacific Ocean. Nonetheless, little is known about the genetic parameters of economic traits. To determine whether the selective breeding programme would improve economic traits, the authors evaluated the growth performance of the selected group and the control group at 60, 90 and 120 days, and the growth performance parameters of the selected group were higher than those of the control group.Through Pearson correlation … Show more

“…Additionally, Digimizer Version 5.4.4 software was utilized to measure various morphological parameters of P. argenteus, including total length, fork length, body length, head length, trunk length, tail length, snout length, eye diameter, tail stalk length, tail stalk height, and body height. Growth traits measurements of P. argenteus adhered to the second-generation standards proposed by Huang et al (2023). These growth traits were calculated for their mean and standard deviation.…”

“…In his study, fork length and body length were also identified as the traits most strongly correlated with body weight. However, in the analysis of the first and second generations byZhang et al (2022) andHuang et al (2023), traits significantly correlated with body weight included body length, tail length, and body height. After three consecutive generations of Pearson correlation and path analysis, body length consistently emerged as the growth trait most strongly correlated with body weight, a pattern observed in many fish species.…”

“…The heritability of morphological abnormalities in gilthead seabream, Spares aurata , has been shown to be significant [ 482 ]. Microsatellite-based parentage pedigree analysis is continuously used in the present day research of the heritability of different traits in fish and shellfish species [ 483 , 484 , 485 ].…”

“…It is widely distributed in the coastal seas of Southeast Asia and the Middle East (Mohamadi Yalsuyi & Forouhar Vajargah, 2017; Parsamanesh et al, 1998). For nearly a decade, P. argenteus has been considered a high farming potential marine fish species in aquaculture owing to its fast growth rate and high nutritional value, and its artificial propagation and selective breeding have been extensively studied (Al‐Abdul‐Elah et al, 2021; Huang et al, 2022; Zhang et al, 2022). However, alongside the rapid development of the aquaculture of farmed P. argenteus , disease problem has become a great concern during the past years, which resulted in considerable economic losses and posed a significant threat to the sustainable development of the industry (Azad et al, 2012; Duremdez et al, 2004; Ni et al, 2020; Tao et al, 2018; Zhang et al, 2021).…”
