Analysis and design of a multi‐channel constant current light‐emitting diode driver based on high‐frequency AC bus

Abstract: To obtain sufficient luminance and achieve higher reliability, light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are usually arranged in parallel strings in many high-power applications. Since current imbalance should be avoided among the parallel LED strings, a multi-channel constant current LED driver based on high-frequency AC bus is proposed in this study. The proposed driver is composed of one resonant inverter followed by passive resonant rectifiers according to the number of LED strings. The amplitude of the high-frequency … Show more

“…[1][2][3] At present, LEDs have entered in almost all lighting applications like signal lighting, street lighting, indoor lighting, transportation, liquid crystal display (LCD) backlighting, architectural lighting, and parking lighting. 18,21,[23][24][25][26] This paper proposes a driver circuit to drive two LED lamps of different power ratings using a three-leg resonant converter. For constant illumination, current needs to be regulated precisely.…”

“…The significance of this curve is that while using a constant voltage regulator to drive a light emitting diode, steep variations in current will occur which will reduce the lifetime of the light emitting diode. Hence constant voltage regulator is not suitable for such systems [10,11]. Luminous intensity of LED is determined by the current flowing through LED.…”

“…Independent control of these LED lamps and independent dimming are the essential features for these drivers. Many multiple load LED drivers are available in the literature . In Alonso et al, the number of transformers increases as the LED loads increase.…”
