Analysis of agreement between cardiac risk stratification protocols applied to participants of a center for cardiac rehabilitation

Abstract: BackgroundCardiac risk stratification is related to the risk of the occurrence of events induced by exercise. Despite the existence of several protocols to calculate risk stratification, studies indicating that there is similarity between these protocols are still unknown.ObjectiveTo evaluate the agreement between the existing protocols on cardiac risk rating in cardiac patients.MethodThe records of 50 patients from a cardiac rehabilitation program were analyzed, from which the following information was extrac… Show more

“…Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) aims to optimize physical and psychosocial recovery after a cardiac event and to reduce the risk of a subsequent event through changes in lifestyle for these patients. 1 , 2 Physical training is an important part of the CR program and aims to improve exercise capacity and physical functioning regarding limitations to individual physical activities. 3 However, some patients do not tolerate even low levels of exercise and therefore tend not to engage in conventional physical training programs.…”

“…22), a core strength assessment measured in seconds, increased from a median of 35[15, 45] to 52[23, 61] seconds or by 51% change from baseline to 60 days (p < 0.001). Number of push-ups, an upper body strength assessment, increased from 7[3, 10] to 10[7,15] or by 78% from baseline to 60 days (n = 20, p = 0.005). Improvements were also seen in cardiopulmonary exercise test variables.…”
