Analysis of causes of the end of service life of a spray polyurethane foam and polyurea roof

Abstract: Spray polyurethane foam (SPF) roofs are widely used in North America. Much fewer usage examples and experience can be found in Northern European cold climatic conditions. This study analyses hygrothermal performance and the reasons for the roof’s degradation and end of service life of an SPF and polyurea roof. The service life of the roof is over and major reconstruction is needed eight year after construction. The current study uses field measurements included onsite temperature and humidity measurements and … Show more

“…Based on the analysis of the temperature distribution inside of the enclosures using computer programs, it is possible to determine their required thermal protection capacity [27,28]. The authors of the works [29,30,31] used computer calculations of the heat flow through the enclosures to ensure their normative level of thermal protection.…”

“…However, due to different spraying materials and uses, this technology has high requirements for temperature regulation, spraying pressure and spraying layer quality [17][18][19]. Currently, the polyurethane spraying construction technology has been successfully used in the fields of waterproof and thermal insulation of building structures [20], thermal insulation of cold storage and grain depot [21], thermal insulation and anti-corrosion of pipeline and trenchless repair [22,23]. However, the study on its utilization in large tunnel engineering to construct earthquake-resistant structures has been rarely conducted or is still in a theoretical stage.…”

“…Thermal and moisture protection, identification of quality issues, and compliance with quality standards are critical parameters for the ultimate product in all divisions (Gajjar et al, 2015). The roofing sector is critical, with the roof's function being the protection and shelter of the building from the weather (Kalamees et al, 2020;Guyer, 2018). There are multiple roofing systems in the construction industry, and installing high-quality roofing products is vital for efficient building operations (Gajjar et al, 2015).…”
