Analysis of fexofenadine in pharmaceutical formulations using tris(1,10‐phenanthroline)–ruthenium(II) peroxydisulphate chemiluminescence system in a multichip device

Abstract: A simple, rapid and sensitive method has been developed for the analysis of fexofenadine (FEX) in pharmaceutical formulations, using a tris(1,10-phenanthroline)-ruthenium(II) [Ru(phen)(3)(2+)] peroxydisulphate chemiluminescence (CL) system in a multichip device. Various parameters that influence the CL signal intensity were optimized. These included pH, flow rates and concentration of reagents used. Under optimum conditions, a linear calibration curve in the range 0.05-5.0 µg/mL was obtained. The detection lim… Show more

“…Pharmaceutical compounds having secondary and tertiary aliphatic amines in their molecular structure such as ciprofloxacin (CIP), codeine (COD), buspirone (BUS), fexofenadine (FEX), cetirizine (CET), propranolol (PRP), dextromethorphan (DEX), norfloxacin (NOR), ofloxacin (OFL) and HCZ were used for the initial comparison. Photochemical oxidation was performed on‐chip and the CL conditions were selected based on our previous work . For chemical oxidation, an offline procedure was undertaken initially with Ce(IV) to understand the suitability of oxidant with selected compounds.…”

“…FEX was analysed using tris (1,10-phenanthroline)-ruthenium(II) peroxydisulphate chemiluminescence system in a multichip device following the procedure of Al Lawati et al [25] The system consists of a serpentine and teardrop microfluidic chips, fluidic connect 4515, and fused silica capillaries, which were purchased from Micronit-(Netherlands). The syringe pumps were purchased from Basi Bee (USA) and the detector was a photomultiplier tube (PMT, H7155-2, HAMA-MATSU, Japan) connected to a PC via Counting Unit (C8855, HAMAMATSU, Japan).…”
