Analysis of Genetic Diversity in 21 Genotypes of Indian Banana Using RAPDs and IRAPs Markers

Abstract: Abstracts Table top banana (AAA) and cooking type plantines (BBB/ABB) are cultivated commercially for high yield and lucrative market value. Morphological similarities among the banana clones make identification difficult under field conditions. Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and inter-retrotransposon amplified polymorphism (IRAP), were used to characterize genetic variations among 21 banana germplasm. IRAP primers were designed to determine 'AA' and 'BB' specific markers on the basis of repetitive an… Show more

“…Copy numbers of retrotransposons range from hundreds to hundreds of thousands. For instance, the Ty1-copia element, BARE-1, in barley, ranges from 20,000 to 200,000 copies (Vicient et al 2000;Shelke and Das 2015), and these copies are mainly located in heterochromatic regions including centromeres (Feng et al 2002). To balance copy numbers, plants have evolved a complex regulatory network of epigenetic mechanisms to silence TE activity (Sinzelle et al 2009;Lisch 2013).…”
