Analysis of GWAS-Derived Schizophrenia Genes for Links to Ischemia-Hypoxia Response of the Brain

Abstract: genes related to synaptic functions were also related to ischemia-hypoxia. Variants of SCZ genes interacting with ischemia-hypoxia provide a specific starting point for functional and genomic studies related to OCs.

“…Similarly, our genetic correlation results indicate that migraine was significantly correlated with mood swings, anxiety, depression, or neuroticism, consistent with a previous genetic correlation analysis study 50 . Thus, these findings suggest that migraine shares common variation risk with psychiatric disorders, such as schizophrenia, for which genome-wide significant loci involved in brain function have been reported 51,52 .…”

“…Another approach has been to examine if there was significant overlap between gene sets enriched for a particular RF and the GWAS variants implicated in schizophrenia. This has recently been done for genes related to ischaemia/hypoxia and the existing GWAS consortia data for schizophrenia and a significant enrichment was shown 49 . Variants within genes associated with schizophrenia interacting with ischaemia–hypoxia provide a specific starting point for functional and genomic studies related to obstetric complications.…”

“…Although other methods for GWAS exist, a lot of recent research papers employ the chi-squared test for GWAS, such as [10][11][12][13], which were published in 2019 or 2020. Furthermore, the chi-squared test is used in numerous papers on GWAS to analyze COVID-19 [14][15][16][17][18].…”
