Analysis of Heavy Metal Contaminated Soils

Abstract: Heavy metal contaminated soils can be a long-term environmental concern and potential financial liability to landowners. Hence, the assessment of heavy metal contaminated soil has received much attention in the last few decades. For a reliable and cost-efficient investigation, a well-planned sampling strategy, appropriate selection and implementation of analytical methods, and careful interpretation of results are prerequisites. This paper presents a brief overview of the preparatory, sampling and analytical s… Show more

“…The samples were continually stirred for about 15 minutes using a magnetic stirrer on a magnetic sitter plate. The samples were allowed to settle, and their pH was determined by a handheld Hanna pH meter calibrated with pH buffer solutions 4, 7, and 10 [20,21].…”

“…The environmental assessment of contaminated soil prior to civil construction projects is based on soil sampling, methods of implementation, analysis and interpretation (Wong and Li 2003). Following such a research scheme, our study combined several tests for evaluating chemical and heavy-metal concentrations and leaching in soil stabilized by a different ratio of binders (120/150 kg per m 3 ) added to the dredged material.…”
