“…During an investigation of the rapid changes in slices of cerebral cortex of guinea pigs brought about by electrical pulses (Heald, 1954) it was found that the rate of breakdown of creatine phosphate appeared to be higher than that required to provide the 'energy-rich' phosphate involved in the metabolism of glucose. From this it was suggested that the 'energy-rich' phosphate released in response to pulses was not used solely in the phosphorylation of glucose.…”
