Fungal pathogens are causative agent of pepper diseases that affect the yield loss. At least 10% of food loss in the developing country caused by plant diseases. Clove oil (Syzygium aromaticum L.) was reported to be able to control pathogenic fungi. In order to evaluate the effect of clove oil in inhibiting the growth of the pepper disease, three types of major causal agent of pepper diseases were used namely Colletotrichum acutatum, Phythopthora capsici, and Pythium sp. The experiment was evaluated in vitro. The three pathogens were treated with the essential oil in different concentration according to IC50 result on each fungi. The clove oil showed inhibitory effect against tested fungi. The Syzygium aromaticum L. essensial oil showed the best inhibitory effect at concentration 340 µl/L, 180 µl/L and 100 µl/L for C. acutatum, P. capsici, and Pythium sp. respectively.

The liquid additive grinding method was used to improve the specific surface area (SSA) of calcium oxide (CaO) derived from scallop shells as a sustainable resource. Grinding was carried out using a planetary ball mill on a laboratory scale by stepwise addition of some polar and non-polar solvents to determine CaO grinding limit. The crystalline phase of CaO was determined by using X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and SSA was observed based on Brunauer, Emmet, and Teller (BET) method. The mechanism of grinding was obtained from the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The SSA of CaO was increased in proportion to the amount of the liquid additive and grinding time up to 102 m2 g-1 while the CaO phase was retained even after the addition of liquid according to the spectra of Fourier Transform-Infrared (FT-IR). The high conversion of triglyceride from used cooking oil to fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) up to 99% was obtained within an hour at 65℃.

Effluent waste generated from the intensive production of vannamei shrimp is known to play an essential role in increasing phytoplankton abundance and the alteration of environmental quality. This alteration is characterized by the presence of various organic compounds and their derivatives. The northern coastal area of Bangka Island represents a region in Indonesia that has witnessed significant growth and development as a vannamei shrimp cultivation zone. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate phytoplankton abundance and environmental quality in the waste of shrimp ponds in the northern coastal area of Bangka Island. The investigation procedures were carried out in four specific locations within this area, namely BL1, BL2, BL3, and BL4. The results showed the presence of five–six distinct phytoplankton groups, including a total of 11–18 genera, within the effluent discharge from these ponds. The highest abundance of phytoplankton was recorded at BL3, with a value of 2,418,375 cells ml−1. The phytoplankton groups identified at all locations included Chlorophyta, Cyanophyta, Chryptophyta, Bacillariophyta, and Pyrrophyta. Euglenophyta was found at BL1 and BL3 but was not observed at BL2 and BL4. Furthermore, the most abundant group found in this study was Chlorophyta. The genera Nanochloropsis, Chlorella, Microcystis, and Nitzschia were consistently found in all the surveyed ponds. The calculation results showed that all locations had a moderate level of diversity, high evenness, and the absence of dominance. Based on the findings of principal component analysis, there was a commonality in parameters that exerted a strong influence on phytoplankton abundance, including nitrate, orthophosphate, and magnesium.
