Analysis of the influence of fusion synthesis parameters on the SO2sorption properties of zeolites produced out of fly ash

Abstract: Abstract. Fly ash zeolites are interesting alternative for zeolies produced out of pure chemicals as well as for natural zeolites. It can be applied as SO 2 sorbents out of flue gases. In the work the experiments were aimed at investigation of SO 2 sorption capacity of samples produced out of fly ash in fusion process. The influence of fusion reaction parameters on the type of obtained zeolites and on the efficiency of synthesis was investigated. The samples containing the same types of zeolites, but with diff… Show more

“…The fly ash used for the synthesis is shown in Figure 3a, the residue from the magnetic separation process is shown in Figure 3b, and the EDS analysis of the rough surface visible in Figure 3b is presented in Figure 3c. The comparison shows that the process of magnetic separation successfully separated out the ferromagnetic components, which are characterized by a rougher surface [17,18]. The character of the separated structure was additionally confirmed by EDS analysis, which indicated a predominant share of Fe and O in the chemical composition.…”

“…Zeolites obtained from fly ash can be used as a substitute for natural zeolites or those obtained from pure chemical reagents. Because the processing of raw materials for energy such as hard coal and especially lignite produces large amounts of flue gases that contain large amounts of SO 2 , Czuma et al [87] attempted to perform SO 2 sorption on zeolites obtained from fly ash using a fusion method. The SO 2 sorption process was carried out at 25 • C on zeolites X and A.…”

“…In the presence of water, H 2 SO 4 and CaSO 4 are formed in the adsorption process, which seriously changes the structure of zeolite and reduces its activity. Czuma et al (2016) investigated the effect of different CFAbased zeolites obtained by changing the melting reaction parameters on the adsorption capacity of SO 2 . The authors stated that the yield and type of zeolites can be influenced by the alkali/ash ratio, alkali melting temperature, and adsorption capacity of SO 2 .…”
