Analysis of the Use of Renewable Energies in Colombia and the Potential Application of Thermoelectric Devices for Energy Recovery

Abstract: This study investigates the current situation of electricity generation from non-conventional renewable energy sources (NCRES) in Colombia. In general, it was shown that Colombia has potential in renewable sources such as solar, wind, and biomass. However, barriers such as lack of human capital, policies focused on conventional technologies and high investment costs have impeded their growth. Although the development of these sources has been encouraged through Law 1715 of 2014, more policies and developments … Show more

“…Firstly, the information resulting from the auction in the first quarter of 2019 highlights the inclusion of FEOs from renewable energy sources such as wind power plant projects and solar panels, with a low percentage of participation (1%). However, the inclusion of this type of energy is a starting point for further analysis regarding trends, applicable policies, characteristics, and scenarios for the medium and long term planning and operation of the Colombian electricity sector regarding these resources, such as the studies carried out by Paez et al (2017), Barrientos and Villada (2020), Cabello et al (2019), Obregon et al (2019) and Forero et al (2019), Castro et al (2019 among others. On the other hand, this result also reflects the effect of the incentives derived from the application of Law 1715 in Colombia, referring to the inclusion of RE in terms of environmental sustainability and resilience of the sector to adverse weather conditions (Arias-Gaviria et al, 2019).…”

“…Many researchers have conducted many studies in the economic field related to the energy sector, especially because of the problems that exist in the energy sector, including the scarcity of energy and renewable energy. Several studies have used cointegration and causality methods to study the relationship between crude oil prices and vegetable oil prices (Yu et al, 2006;Forero et al, 2019). The Vector Autoregressive (VAR) model has a long history as an analytical method for multivariate time series data (Quenouille, 1957).…”

“…The VAR or VECM model for modeling energy and economics have been used by many researchers because of too many problems concerning energy, climate change, CO 2 and renewable energy (Forero, 2019;Warsono et al, 2019a, Warsono et al, 2019bWang et al, 2018;Ito, 2017). The used of VECM modeling to nd the correlation between food price index and crude oil price had been investigated by Aynur (2013) .…”
