Analysis on preferential free running laser wavelength and performance modeling of Tm3+-doped YAP and YLF

Abstract: The preferential free running laser wavelength at room temperature for different axes cuts of Tm³⁺-doped YAP and YLF is comparatively analyzed in this paper. The polarized gain spectrum of Tm:YAP and Tm:YLF with different product values of Tm³⁺-doped concentration and crystal length is theoretically calculated under various cavity output mirror transmissions. From the gain spectrum, it straightforwardly determines the preferential free running laser wavelength for a given light polarization. In addition, a rat… Show more

“…The fist mechanism is very simple: OC1 had the reflection minimum at ∼1960 nm that discriminated the operation at 1940 nm; while OC2 had the flat reflection spectrum with the weak 5-% changes at 1890-2000 nm (figure 3). The second mechanism has a more complicated explanation: the Tm 3+ :YAP crystal under in-band pumping can be identified as a quasi-three-level active medium due to a small Stark splitting of the low level manifold 3 H 6 of the laser transition 3 F 4-3 H 6 [5,6,38]. As a consequence, the absorption and emission cross-sections of the Tm 3+ :YAP for all eigenwaves have an overlapping at 1800-2000 nm (figure 11), and the effective gain cross section G of the laser depends on the inversion fraction β:…”
