Analytical database of Martian minerals (ADaMM): Project synopsis and Raman data overview

Abstract: The Mars2020/Perseverance and ExoMars/Rosalind Franklin rovers are both slated to return the first Raman spectra ever collected from another planetary surface, Mars. In order to optimize the rovers scientific outcome, the scientific community needs to be provided with tailored tools for data treatment and interpretation. Responding to this need, the purpose of the Analytical Database of Martian Minerals (ADaMM) project is to build an extended multianalytical database of mineral phases that have been detected o… Show more

“…For its calculation, the IDAT/SpectPro software was used. [ 27–29 ] This software is a proprietary software being developed by the researchers of the University of Valladolid for the exploitation and analysis of spectra acquired by the RLS instrument. This software includes graphical management and annotation tools (zooming and labeling) and also spectral analytical tools.…”

“…Furthermore, SpectPro provides graphical tools to perform peak detection (comparing with a threshold graphically set by the user, providing basic band information such as intensity, position, and FWHM) and band adjustment (allowing the graphical definition of Gaussian–Lorentzian bands to facilitate the deconvolution of bands on complex mixtures). [ 27–29 ] Details on the SpecPro software will be amply discussed in another paper under preparation. For the particular analysis performed with this data, the spectra were processed by removing their baseline, and the peak characteristics were obtained by using the peak detection tool of SpectPro, which directly provides the FWHM of the detected bands.…”

“…With regards to the modeling sub-data set, samples of known concentration were created by mixing pure mineral phases from the Analytical Database of Martian Minerals (ADaMM) database. 64 The chemometric model was then tested using Raman data from terrestrial analogue materials selected from the Planetary Terrestrial Analogue Library (PTAL). 65,66…”

“…Veneranda et al [ 3 ] presented a paper on the Analytical Database of Martian Minerals (ADaMM) project, an extended multianalytical database of mineral phases that have been detected on Mars or are expected to be found at the landing sites where the Mars2020/Perseverance rover is already operating, and ExoMars/Rosalind Franklin rover will do. The most valuable scientific contribution of this work is the use of laboratory prototypes simulating the analytical performances of the spectroscopic systems onboard the Mars 2020 and ExoMars rovers, that is, the Raman Laser Spectrometer (RLS) and SuperCam systems.…”
