Analytical Modelling of MSW Landfill Surface Displacement Based on GNSS Monitoring

Abstract: Displacements of landfills play an important role in the reclamation process and geotechnical safety improvement of such sites. Landfill settlements are defined as a vertical displacement of waste body due to compression, degradable nature of the waste, and creep phenomenon of the waste particles. Waste composition is more diverse than natural soil. Thus, it has to be properly placed and compacted since the landfill body will continuously settle down. Several models of the landfill displacement estimation have… Show more

“…The use of dynamic load trials in conjunction with static load trials for anatomical testing of new bridges and ongoing monitoring of operational bridges was demonstrated by comparing the results. Adamcová et al [121] investigated landfill displacements, which are important for reclamation and geotechnical safety enhancement. They involve the vertical displacement of waste bodies due to compression, decomposition, and creep.…”

“…This predictive analysis helps companies and researchers to determine the nature, standards, and bearing capacity of a structure against static and dynamic loads. Static loads occur because of displacement, acceleration, strain, stress, and temperature together with dynamic loads based on vibration, natural frequencies, model identification, time history analysis, and response spectrum, depending on the characteristics of the external and internal interactions and the type of structure [10,11]. Olivera Lopez et al [12] carried out real-time monitoring in a 14-floor building stationed in a coastal area of Chile subjected to dynamic loading.…”

“…In the case of the Radiowo landfill (Poland) selected for this study, the plan is to develop part of the area for sports and recreation and another part (slopes) for the installation of photovoltaic panels (PP) and wind turbines (RES). Given the large size of the landfill, steep slopes, and deformable material prone to landslides, it is necessary to measure the current shape and deformation of the mass over time to ensure geotechnical safety, preferably covering the entire landfill surface [ 9 , 10 , 11 ].…”
